Foods that promote hair growth

It seems that a new superfood is rediscovered every week that can cure cancer, makes sure you never age, and keeps your health in check. We run to stores and pay large prices for these wonder foods that come in small packs with high price tags, but there may be some food already in your kitchen that works just as well. View our recommended list of foods that promote hair growth below.

Avocado for Healthy Hair

Avocados

Avocados are full of ‘good’ fats known as monounsaturated fats, which can help lower bad cholesterol. They taste amazing and are also great for your hair. Take a ripe avocado or two and mash it up in a small bowl or cup. You can add a few spoons of your favorite oil such as coconut to make a deep conditioning hair mask. The mask will leave your hair feeling silky smooth, and the strands will even appear thicker with regular use.

Onions for Hair Loss

Onions

Onions contain sulphur, which is an essential ingredient in many hair loss formulations. Onions are an essentintial hair growth food choice. This method is a slow burner and can be quite smelly but using onion juice in areas affected by hair loss is centuries old. Take an onion, finely chop and simmer in a pan then let it cool. After making the juice separate the onion pieces and use a bottle with a nozzle tip to apply it to the areas you want after shampooing the hair. (It can also be used all over but focus on the scalp). Leave the onion juice on your hair and scalp for 10-15 minutes then rinse with warm water.

Bananas for Biotin and Hair Growth

Bananas

Bananas contain Biotin, a vitamin that is crucial to hair growth. Eating more bananas will naturally increase the amount of Biotin you are receiving which will lead to hair growth. We highly recommend making a banana hair mask that can rival any deep conditioner as bananas have a super moisturizing effect on the hair. You can go crazy with this one. Use an over ripe banana as the base (the more black spots, the better) then add honey, olive oil, coconut oil or whatever oil takes your fancy. Add them all to a blender or mix until smooth then leave on your hair for at least 20 mins before rinsing with warm water. Not only will your hair smell amazing it will look extraordinary too.

Eggs for Stronger, Thicker Hair

Eggs

Eggs are an excellent source of protein. Keratin is a tough protein which is what hair is made of. It will make the hair stronger and provide the building blocks it needs to grow. The yolk is the powerhouse where all of the nutrients are stored, but the white contains most of the protein. Take two large eggs and three large spoons of olive oil and mix in a bowl until you have an even consistency. Apply the egg mix to dry hair and cover with a plastic cap or saran wrap and leave for a least 20 minutes. Rinse with fresh water. Hair will feel much smoother, moisturized and less dry. From the recommended foods that promote hair growth, we suggest you try eggs first.
